In the early days of the company, certain Jaguar employees had created an informal group they called "The Saturday Club" (so-named because they would meet after-hours and on weekends to work on unofficial pet-projects). In the 1980s, Jaguar's chief-engineer Jim Randle, as part of that group, began work on what he saw as competition for cars like the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959. He envisioned what was essentially an updated XJ13 - a lightweight two-seater with a powerful mid-mounted V12 engine. Randle expanded on the idea by settling on all wheel drive for increased traction and better handling and an integral safety-cage so the car could be safely raced at extremely high speeds. From the outset, the intention was to create a vehicle capable of exceeding 320 km/h (200 mph. The name XJ 220 was assigned as a reference to the targeted top-speed of 220 mph. The 6.2 Liter V12 had been judged too difficult to get past increasingly strict emission regulations and there were also reportedly some design problems caused by the size of the power plant. It was replaced with a Tom Walkinshaw-developed 3.5 Liter V6 based on the engine used in the Rover Metro 6R4 rally car and fitted with twin Garrett T3 turbochargers, generating 549 bhp (409 kW/557 PS) of maximum power at 7000 rpm and 473 lb/ft of torque at 4500 rpm. This engine was not only the first V6 in Jaguar's history, but also the first to use forced induction. In spite of the smaller displacement and half the number of cylinders, the engine produced more power than the V12 would have. However, potential customers judged the exhaust note to be harsh and the lag from the turbos to be an annoyance. Also missing from the production version of the car was the Ferguson all wheel drive, the production car had only rear driven wheels, through a conventional transaxle, and the ABS. The car entered production in 1992 in a purpose built factory at Bloxham near Banbury, and the first cars were delivered to customers in July. Original customers included Elton John and the Sultan of Brunei. This XJ 220 is the result of this amazing engineering feat. Dark gray interior, rear wheel drive, leather, alarm, air conditioning, 4-wheel ABS and in mint condition. This car is #91 of 280 made. Powered by a Twin-Turbocharged engine with 542hp, 4-wheel independent unequal length wishbones, inboard coil springs and dampers, and anti-roll bars. 0-60 in under 4 seconds and 0-100 in under 8 seconds. Top speed of 217 mph. Previously registered in California and emissions compliant in all states.

Nissan R35 GT-R Super GT GT500 Craftsquare Mirrors

August 27th, 2009

GT-RR.COM Partners with GT500 Parts Supplier Craftsquare

GT-RR has been selected as the exclusive North American distributor of Craftsquare’s upcoming R35 GT-R specific mirror conversion. The Craftsquare application will be a direct replacement for the stock R35 GT-R mirrors, using original mounting locations for a clean and simple bolt on installation. Craftsquare is used in Super GT racing by Nissan because of their functional advantage in aerodynamics as well as weight savings. Craftsquare, because of their wide use and history within the Japanese Super GT series has benefited from extensive wind tunnel testing. The countless hours of wind tunnel testing has resulted in determining the unique and functional shape of their mirrors. Each set of Craftsquare mirrors is produced in Japan with a full carbon fiber housing to maximize weight savings.

Craftsquare has a long history of success on race cars in countless forms of motorsport, yet is also very popular for street applications on Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus and many Japanese vehicles such as the previous generation Nissan GT-Rs. The mirrors are known for being highly functional during daily driving, maintaining a comparable horizontal range of vision to the stock mirrors. This is accomplished by being wider than most “racing” aftermarket mirrors and also by use of a wide angle mirror. The result is less blind spots and a more usable mirror set for the street or circuit.

The design is being finalized now for the Nissan R35 GT-R street application, it will differ in shape slightly from the Super GT500 racing application due to the car’s mounting location and body dimensions being different between the street and the race car. This new design from Craftsquare will be titled as a “TCA-F” mirror set and will be comparable to what is found on the Super GT Lamborghini Gallardo pictured below.

Environment Friendly Super Car to the Rescue

superhero car6 Environment Friendly Super Car to the Rescue

Most of us in some or the other parts of our lives were passionate about superheroes, be it Power Rangers, or Superman or Batman. Their gadgets and cars that appeared unexpectedly out of thin air fascinated us. Matus Prochaczka’s super car is soon going to be one of them.

superhero car2 Environment Friendly Super Car to the Rescue

Originally designed for the Toon Studio of Beverly Hills to use it for characters representing superheroes, the concept car would soon take off to save the world. Sporting the look of an ultra-modern F-1 racer on the outside, the 2-seater runs on bio-diesel fuel and electricity powered by pumpkin seed oil. Now, that would be a good message for the kids- superheroes are eco-friendly! Its aerodynamic design makes it seem like its ready to go take to the air on a saving assignment.

I don’t know if the super car would take to the roads or not, but I feel it would do no good to a daily driver unless he happens to be a hard-core eco-lover!

Rank 1. SSC Ultimate Aero

The SSC Aero is an American-built mid-engine sports car by Shelby Super Cars. Its higher-performance limited production version, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT, is currently the fastest production car in the world, with a fastest recorded speed of 413 km/h (257 mph). This speed was reportedly achieved during tests on September 13, 2007 in West Richland, Washington, United States and verified by Guinness World Records on October 9, 2007.

The Aero and the Shelby Super Cars company are the brainchildren of Jerod Shelby, who spent over seven years designing the car. The basic Aero model is no longer produced, while, as of 2008, the Ultimate Aero costs about 620,000 dollars.

Rank 2. Bugatti Veyron

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is a mid-engine sports car produced by Volkswagen Group subsidiary Bugatti Automobiles SAS introduced in 2005. It is currently the fastest accelerating and decelerating production car in the world. It is currently also the most expensive production car available at a price of 1.1 million Euro. It is able to achieve the second highest top speed for a production car, behind the SSC Ultimate Aero TT .

Powered by a 736-kilowatt (1,001 PS/987 hp) W16 engine, it is able to achieve an average top speed of 408.47 km/h (253.81 mph). The car reached full production in September 2005, and is handcrafted in a factory Volkswagen built near the formerBugatti headquarters in Château St Jean in Molsheim (Alsace, France). It is named after French racing driver Pierre Veyron, who won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939 while racing for the originalBugatti firm. Two examples of the Veyron are known to have been wrecked since production began.

Rank 3. Koenigsegg CCX

The Koenigsegg CCX is a mid-engined roadster from Swedish car manufacturer Koenigsegg. The CCX has been engineered to comply with the US regulation and market demands and is an evolutionary design that replaced the Koenigsegg CCR. CCX is an abbreviation for Competition Coupe X; the X commemorating the 10th anniversary, (being the Roman numeral for ten), of the completion and test drive of the first CC vehicle in 1996.

The CCX was first unveiled on February 28, 2006 at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show although its existence was announced earlier. A derivative known as the CCXR is available, the difference being that CCXR's engine is tuned to run on biofuel. The different fuel and tune allows the CCXR to produce 25% more power than the CCX.

Rank 4. Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo

The Saleen S7 is a limited production, hand built high-performance automobile developed jointly by Saleen, Hidden Creek Industries, Phil Frank Design, and Ray Mallock Ltd. with RML taking full credit designing and developing the S7 and produced solely bySaleen in Irvine, California. It is the first car produced by Saleen not based on an existing design. The S7 debuted on August 19, 2000 at the Monterey Historic Races. From 2000 until 2004, the S7 featured a naturally aspirated V8 engine with 550 horsepower. In 2005, the S7 was replaced by the S7 Twin Turbo, which featured a more powerful twin-turbo system that boosted engine power to 750 horsepower (760 PS/559 kW) and the top speed to an estimated 250 mph (402 km/h).

Rank 5. McLaren F1

The McLaren F1 was formerly the fastest street legal production car in the world, holding this record from 1994 to 2005, the longest period the record has been held by any street legal or production car in the history of automobiles. It was engineered and produced by McLaren Automotive, a subsidiary of the British McLaren Group that, among others, owns the McLaren Mercedes Formula One team. Today, it is still the fastest naturally aspirated car in the world.

The McLaren F1 was at the time the fastest production car ever built, eclipsing the Jaguar XJ220. A standard version of the McLaren achieved a top speed of 371 km/h (231 mph) in 1994, holding this record for more than 10 years until it was finally eclipsed in 2005 by the Koenigsegg CCR.
